Discover a Rising Star in Newfoundland’s Fishing Industry: A KÖBB Media Video Production
Welcome to KÖBB Production’s latest video, a captivating glimpse into the life of Alicia Warford, a promising young fish harvester based out of Petty Harbour, Newfoundland and Labardor, Canada. In this video produced for the FFAW, we dive into Alicia’s journey, her aspirations, and the dedication she brings to the fishery.
Alicia’s Journey: From Childhood Dreams to Fisheries Management
Growing up surrounded by the vast expanse of the ocean, Alicia’s passion for the sea was ignited at an early age. From tagging along with her father to the lobster pots as a baby to becoming a full-time university student at Grenfell University in Cornerbrook, her connection to the maritime world runs deep.
Alicia’s decision to study fisheries management stems from her belief in the importance of incorporating firsthand industry experience into the realm of fisheries management. Inspired by her father, John Warford, who has been a dedicated fisherman since the age of 16, Alicia recognizes the invaluable knowledge passed down through generations of experienced fishermen.
Venturing out to their lobster grounds, located just 20 minutes outside Petty Harbour, Alicia and her father engage in the age-old tradition of lobster fishing. With around 100 pots in their modest arsenal, they haul in a bounty of lobsters, typically yielding several hundred pounds per week, contingent on the season. Their catch finds its way to local markets and supermarkets, sustaining both the local economy and their livelihood.
However, Alicia’s vision extends beyond the present moment. She harbors hopes for a future fishery that is not only sustainable but also inclusive. With a firm belief that hard work transcends gender, she advocates for greater representation of women in the industry. Moreover, she underscores the need for regulatory adjustments to facilitate the transition of younger individuals, like herself, into leadership roles within family-owned fishing enterprises.

Our Experience with Fishing Organizations
At KÖBB Media, we are proud to have a rich history of collaborating with various fishing organizations to highlight the stories and challenges within the industry. Our journey began in 2012 when we partnered with the Canadian Council of Professional Fish Harvesters, producing a series of engaging videos that showcased the lives of fish harvesters.
Since 2015, we have been working closely with the FFAW (Fish, Food and Allied Workers) to create compelling content that not only celebrates the fishing community but also advocates for its needs and aspirations. Our commitment to capturing the essence of the fishing industry drives us to produce high-quality video productions that resonate with audiences and bring attention to the vital role that fish harvesters play in our economy and culture.
