KÖBB Production produced this video for Fisheries and Oceans Canada to highlight the scientific activities in the Banc-des-Américains Marine Protected Area (MPA). This video showcases marine conservation efforts and essential research conducted in this unique region.

The Banc-des-Américains Marine Protected Area is located off the Gaspé Peninsula and covers an area of 1000 square kilometres. It harbours an impressive biodiversity, including endangered whales species. Our production efforts have captured this richness and contribute to raising awareness and conserving this vital ecosystem.

This video was created using footage filmed by KÖBB Production during a scientific expedition in the Banc-des-Américains MPA. We employed advanced filming techniques, including footage captured by drones launched from a moving vessel. This approach allowed us to capture unique and dynamic perspectives of the marine protected area, including stunning landscapes, the research vessel NGCC Leim, and the scientific team at work.

In addition to our own footage, the video includes sequences provided by scientists from the Maurice Lamontagne Institute, Oceana Canada and the Canadian Scientific Submersible Facility/ROPOS. These sequences provide a detailed insight into the research and conservation activities in the region, enriching the visual and informative narrative of our production. We also used footage of marine mammals graciously provided by the Mingan Island Cetacean Study and Andrew Wright’s marine mammal team.

We also filmed fascinating footage of marine ecosystems and animals using an underwater drone. These underwater sequences reveal the diversity and beauty of the marine habitats in Banc-des-Américains, offering a unique view of the species inhabiting these protected waters.

The Banc-des-Américains Marine Protected Area plays a crucial role in safeguarding the biodiversity of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. It serves as a convergence point for numerous marine species, providing vital habitat for fish, invertebrates, and marine mammals, including some endangered species. Ocean currents bring essential nutrients, creating a rich and dynamic ecosystem.

Our video highlights these important aspects through captivating footage and expert testimonies, such as those from Fisheries and Oceans Canada marine biologists. By showcasing research and monitoring efforts, we aim to further raise public awareness about the importance of marine conservation.
